Building a Sustainable Future

Mission

Pioneering

the Future of Sustainable Practices

The Mission of the Transformational Agriculture and Health Initiative  (TAHI) is to build the next generation of agricultural practice, recognizing the inextricable intertwining of soil, food, nutrition, and health sciences. We foster conversations among diverse
faculty from those fields while teaching students the synergy and extending the scientific foundations. We build healthier bodies, farms, and communities.

WHY REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE?

Revitalizing Land and Yield:

A New Approach to Agriculture

Discover the intricate processes behind regenerative agriculture, exploring its profound impact on soil functionality and crop productivity. Uncover the secrets of efficient resource utilization in crop production, optimizing water, light, and nutrient usage. Delve into the fascinating effects of regenerative practices on soil carbon levels and transformative changes in soil properties.

At TAHI we see farmers at the center of a farming system that improves their soil health, their crop quality, their communities, and the health of people that eat the food they grow.

We focus on education and community building to reveal, improve, and nurture that system. Farmers are the first step in the healthcare supply chain. To fully deliver on that responsibility requires increased knowledge of the health of their soil, their crops, and their business strategy. Addressing this whole system is fundamental to our approach.

Soils

Introduction to soils, the process of soil formation.

KEY FACTORS OF SOIL DEGRADATION

We focus on soils and the process of soil formation. Explanation for soil differences in texture, productive capacity, water content, carbon content, and nutrient cycling. Knowing those factors that cause soil degradation, and learning how to ameliorate that degradation.

Water is crucial. We focus on how to improve water availability and flow.

SOIL NUTRIENTS

Overview of nutrients in the soil and their availability and impact on plant growth. Relationship among nutrients and the need for a balanced soil nutrient content.

AGRICULTURE ADVOCACY

It is very important to gain knowledge on how to
advocate for your farming operation on federal, state, and local levels.

Farm Business Management

The financial stability of a farming operation requires knowledge of operating loans, land loans, beginning farmer loans, financial statements, and cash flow preparation. It also requires knowledge of insurances such as crop, liability, and property insurance, as well as an understanding of land and equipment rental agreements.
